Weekly Update

I figure that it's time I start doing something like this each week or as often as I can. I didn't see the need to start it sooner because I wasn't feeling much that wasn't nausea or constant sleepiness. Now that we're almost halfway, I'm hoping there's more to report each week or so.

How far along? 18 weeks, 2 days
How big is baby? About the size of a baseball, give or take.
Total Weight Gain/Loss: Clueless, as I'm 1lb. heavier than I was when I had my last appointment. Puking everyday is a great way to keep from gaining weight!
Next Appointment: We were just there today, and we have our next appointment a month from now. Loving the monthlies.
Maternity Clothes: Yes. I've outgrown all my pre-pregnancy pants and I was keeping them closed with safety pins and rubber bands. I need to invest in a belly band, I think, but the few maternity pieces I've got have been a lifesaver so far!
Sleep: This is getting harder and harder. We're getting a new mattress soon (AMEN!) so I'm hoping that will help. But, it's getting harder and harder to find a comfortable position to sleep in. I'm waking up a few times a night because I'm uncomfortable and my hips are starting to hurt! Not waking up a billion times to use the bathroom, though, so that's something to be thankful for!
Best Moment This Week: Feeling kiddo fluttering around in there, like a goldfish in a brand new bowl. It's slowly gone from feeling weird to cool, now that I know exactly what I'm feeling for.
Movement: Like a goldfish swimming around in there.
Planning/Preparation: So much to do, including reading more of those books and signing up for the Great Expectations program at the hospital.
Belly Button In/Out: Flatter than it was, but still an innie. I'll cry A LOT if it pops.
Gender: Inconclusive!
What I Miss: Being able to take a deep breath and sleep through the night. ::cries::
What I'm Looking Forward To: Popping out a little more so it doesn't look like I've got a 6-pack-a-day habit.
Contractions: Dr. says Braxton-Hicks happening, but nothing that I can feel yet.
Milestones? Finally hearing baby's heartbeat! It only took 18 weeks, but this kid finally popped out from behind my pelvic bones and we could hear the heartbeat. I was starting to think that I was somehow broken because we couldn't hear it.

  1. That's a good update!

Just a little bit of fashion advice: I was pregnant in warm/hot weather, and sundresses were my saviors! Especially because, for a while, you can still wear non-maternity sundresses (especially empire waist), look cute, and have them for next year.

Also, when my hips were hurting at night, I used a body pillow. I tucked it between my knees, then curled it up my body under my belly. Then, I got really big and had all the pillows--except one small one for Jason--all around me.

Sorry you're still puke-y, but it sounds like you're doing great! Hooray!

  2. My peeing has severely escalated in the past couple weeks. And get a damn snoogle already. Trust me.

  3. Hate to say it, but the sleeplessness doesn't go away until after your baby's sleeping through the night. Or, if you aren't going to nurse, you can have the nurses keep your baby in the hospital nursery during the night so you can get a little extra sleep. But, if you have a recliner, try sleeping in it. Sometimes it's the only way I can get comfortable at night. Joe also likes when I sleep on our couch b/c then he can't hear me snoring. ;-)

And, does this mean your baby didn't cooperate & this is why we don't know if it's a boy or girl? What a stinker.

Since this is my first summer pregnancy, I've had to go out & buy some new maternity clothes. Right now, I'm living in Old Navy maternity tanks & palazzo (sp?) pants & shorts. I'm REALLY loving the tanks. I'll have to go get some regular sizes next year. All I'm thankful for is the fact that I never had to buy maternity underwear during all 3 pregnancies.

I'm gald you are keeping a journal of your pregnancy. Now, you can go back to it for reference with your next pregnancies. ;-) I really wish I would have kept a journal. There are times when I have to ask Joe if he remembers something specific about my last 2. Oh well.

Hang in there! You're almost halfway there!

  4. Angie, I was thinking last night... have you tried a different brand of prenatals? Maybe that's what's making you sick. I think I tried 4 or 5 different brands before I found one that didn't get me sick. Talk to one of the nurses or your dr. and see what they think. If you haven't tried that already, that is.

Tell me what you think. For serious.
